Biological Clock:

Females of most mosquito species look for pools of stagnant water, ponds or any receptacle that holds water to lay eggs. Eggs are laid individually or stuck together as rafts on or near the water’s edge. Mosquitoes take approximately a period of 7 days to complete the development of the larvae stage. This creates variation in the angle between the body and water surface making it a useful tool for identification of different larvae like Cluex, Anopheles and Aedes species. Larvae need oxygen from the atmosphere and therefore they come to the surface of water and exchange oxygen through the siphon or breathing tube. Pupae is the resting and a non-feeding stage in the water, Adult mosquitoes will emerge from the pupal case (a process known as eclosion) and rest on the water's surface until the body dries and hardens before flying away.

Behavior:

The male and female mosquito both feed on nectar and plant juices to provide energy for flight, but only the female seeks a blood meal to acquire the nutrients typically required to stimulate egg production. Mosquitoes prefer to rest in dark, humid places Mosquitoes have been and continue to be very efficient vectors of many devastating diseases worldwide. People are more attractive to mosquitoes due to dark clothing, blood type, sweat, carbon dioxide, skin bacteria. People, pets and livestock are also suffer irritating reactions from the injection of saliva from the mosquitoes bite. Female Anopheles mosquitoes usually bite late in the evening or during night and spread Malaria & lymphatic filariasis. Aedes Mosquitoes bites during the day and spreads Chikungunya, Dengue, Yellow Fever and Zika Virus. Culex Mosquitoes bites during the dusk and dawn and spreads West Nile fever, St. Louis encephalitis and Japanese encephalitis

Locate:

Hot, humid environments are most amenable to mosquito growth and survival. They are very adept at exploiting permanent or temporary pools of water around our homes, laying their eggs in rainwater tanks, roof guttering, plant pot saucers, old tyres, swamps, clogged ditches and temporary pools and puddles.

What can we do to control mosquitoes?

Prevention of breeding sites around the home is the best way for home owners to reduce mosquito numbers.
Ensure that gutters are not blocked and drain water from pot saucers etc. or anywhere else it has accumulated.
Remove standing water in buckets, tires, toys, birdbaths, and flowerpot saucers, Install screens on windows and doors, and repair any holes, wear protective clothing, use bednets, avoid outdoor activities during peak mosquito biting times.

The mosquitoes are solely responsible for more human deaths annually than any other living organisms. Do not take any chances with mosquitoes. For services contact Paradise Pest Control today.
