Termite Control Services

What are Termites?

Termites are considered as the most destructive insect in the world which completely destroys the building structure and damages it. There are more 12750 species around the world. They survive more than 120 million years ago. To survive they mostly feed on wood. During a termite infectation, the termsites look for wood and any wooden article is at high risk of infestation, Eating wood provides termites with cellulose nourishment.

Termite Colony

Termites are known to survive in large colonies, these colonies take time to develop. Sometimes these colonies take up to four years to be formed. Termites are wood-eating insects that are often confused with ants. Termites are known to survive mostly in warm and humid temperatures

The king and queen are responsible for creating new colonies through swarming or budding. They start their life as an alate, leave the colony, shed their wings to form a nest and they start to reproduce. The King releases chemicals to control the colony. Queen keeps on reproducing eggs (30,000 Eggs) in a day and plays a large role in the development of the colony and in the communication and delegation of tasks within the colony.

Biological Clock

  • Eggs - Small white in color and it takes several weeks to hatch into larvae.

  • Larvae - Pale, white and tiny.
  • Nymphs - They emerge from the larvae and develops by molting - to remove their outer skin. Later the nymph termites come out bigger and developed.
  • Adult - Termites reach the adult stage, they form large colonies by caste and it includes workers, soliders, reproductive termites.
  • Worker Termites - Young ones develop into worker and they are the largest termite colony. They are in white-yellowish to cream in color and responsible for foraging for food, constructing and repairing tunnels, and caring for the young. They do not have eyes, wings, and larger than nymphs.

  • Soldier Termite - They comes after workers and it is the second largest and active kind of the colony. They defend themselves and work towards guarding the nest. They are blind and release a toxic substance when encountered by enemies.
  • Reproductive Alate - These are dark brown golden color and are known as swarmers. They are bigger than workers and soldiers.
  • King Termite - Male alate is called the king termite who finished its mating and it does not changes it size after becoming the king of the colony.
  • Queen Termite - The former reproductive alates are queen termite and it is larger in size than of king termites. It produces ovaries continuously as it grows older to lay large amount of eggs and hence its abdomen are larger in size.

Termite Types

Subterranean Termite

Behavior - These termites build their nest underground near structures and travel through mud tubes to access the food above ground sources. They live in large colonies in warm and humid regions.

Appearance - They length about 1/8th and wings are cream white color, with dark brown or black large bodies.

Damage - These termites primarily feed on cellulose materials found in wood, wooden fixtures and other cellulose based materials causing significant damage to building and structures. They cause great loss to the premises.

Drywood Termite

Behavior - These termites infest drywood and live in colonies which they infested. They infest structural lumber, wood fixtures, furniture and other dry wood materials found in houses and buildings.

Appearance - They are pale brown in color. Soldiers are 3/8" long and alates are " long. Alates emerge from exit holes in wood during warm, sunny days. After mating, the alates shed their wings and pair off to find a suitable location to start a new colony.

Damage - Drywood termites live in dry wood, such as structural timbers, furniture, picture frames, and banisters. They don't need to make contact with soil to survive, unlike subterranean termites.

Dampwood Termite

Behavior - Dampwood termites thrive in most environments and require regular contact with water and high humidity. They live entirely in the wood they infest, like dead trees, tree's base part, fallen trees, timber, etc..

Appearance - The king and queen measure %" to 5/8" long and their color ranges from light to dark brown, where the nymphs are cream colored.

Damage - They completely damage the structure by hollowing the beams. Their secret behavior does not help us to detect its activity until it becomes severe.

Sings of Termites

Termite live in dark, humid and protected environment, which makes them hard to find until the infestations become severe and damages are occurred.

  1. Mud tubes - are built interior and exterior of the walls leading as an entry point of the building using soil, debris, Termite Excreta and saliva and they travel though the tube in search of food.
  2. Swarmers - The winged Alates come out of the colonies during rainy season and shed their wings on the floor.
  3. Droppings - Termites leave the droppings after consuming wood, they are observed in the infested wood parts.
  4. Galleries - Tunnels inside the Wood are difficult to identify.
  5. Hollow Sound in wood - Termites consume wood due to the cellulose present in it. Due to which we can observe a hollow sound when knocked or tapped.

Inspection Areas

Our well trained experts will completely evaluate the areas where termite infestations have occurred like Wet and Damp Areas, Plywood False Ceiling Area, wooden interiors, wooden frames, stored wood items, backside of wooden kitchen cabinets, windows, doors, drainage pipes, bathrooms, etc., and they will provide instructions to save you property from severe damages and they suggest for Post Construction Treatment.

What is Termite Control Post-Construction Service?

Warranty

Termite control post construction service for the existing buildings covers a warranty period depending on the type of service customer chosen.

What is Termite Control Pre-Construction Service?

Anti Termite treatment before construction helps to avoid termite damages in buildings. The soil foundation, building pillars, and other joints get treated using chemicals to keep termites out of the premises. The termiticide treated to the soil comes in immediate contact with the foundation and structure of the building, kills or repels termites which is lethal and acts as toxic barrier for the termite entries.

Stages of Treatment

Three stages of treatment are included in the Pre-Construction Building are as per IS 6313

Responsibilities of Architects, Builders & Engineers

Human's dream to build a home of their own designs depends on Architects, Builders and Engineers.
